“Do you have worrying moles on your skin? Check them out!Regional programme for the prevention of melanoma and other skin cancers” COMPLETED – IN REALISATION

The main objective of the project is to improve the health of the residents of the Łódzkie Voivodeship aged 18-64 through the participation of 1,530 people (765 females, 765 males) in preventive examinations for early detection of melanoma and other skin cancers until 31 October 2023.

The project is a response to barriers in access to skin cancer prevention - activities are focused on rural areas (cat. Degurba3) and medium-sized towns. This will translate into equal opportunities in access to preventive examinations - people from smaller towns will have easier access to examination.

Those most at risk of leaving the labour market due to health factors will be encouraged to undergo preventive screening (dermatological consultation with dermatoscopic examination). In particular, people with atypical moles, a large number of moles, fair skin, a family history of melanoma, spending a lot of time in the sun (working in construction, road building or agriculture), as well as those who use tanning beds and those who suffered sunburns in childhood.

The most eseential tasks in the programme are related to the increase of public awareness of skin cancer prevention - to raise awareness of the importance of checking and self-examination of moles, using UV filters and avoiding risk factors.

The project will include educational activities aimed at primary care physicians (dermatoscopy course), as well as beauty professionals and physiotherapists (training in skin cancer prevention). Cooperation will also be established with min. 12 Primary Health Care Centres which provide services to the target group for preventive examinations. The medical staff of the Primary Health Care Centres will have the opportunity to qualify patients from the 18-39 age group to participate in the project.
